Wellington, NZ

like tires, grease, and screwdrivers,
i am HIS favorite tool

she may not be his last,
but once in his past,
he loved her
and thought of forever.
—
who is your one great love?
puberty murdered my childhood. the advent of pubic hairs deliberately put an end to the sunny days i spent skinny dipping with my bosom buddies. those were the days when my complexion was violet, and yet, i was the most crushable little girl in the neighborhood.
back then, we play like gender-less angels of Eden, not minding the lump of fatty tissue between girls’ legs and pink-to-brown twin balls between boys’. then again, we knew of the Sheryl-Romnick loveteam and since then, things were never the same again.
but years of non-malice never erased the fact that i saw each of my neighbor’s precious jewels, and they saw mine. no wonder, not once, did any of us tried to hit on each other.

this photograph is a tribute to all the friends i grew up with. taken in Porto Fino, Cebu, Philippines.

the everyday reality
i see outside
my office window
20 racecourse road
trentham, hutt valley
wellington

coffee breaks
and
morning teas
are taken here…
and
poetry
on
table napkins
too…

her, a heavenly body.
photographed by the owner of the stars.

back home, i used to ogle at deviations like this.
i thought it was a camera issue.
now i realized, it’s the setting.
NZ, indeed, is photogenic

because we feed each other’s narcissism…
me, in the eyes of my travel buddy and “other” bestfriend, Jopet.
